Freshly sawn Western Red Cedar is stacked under cover with plenty of airflow and left to season naturally. We don’t decide when it’s ready, the timber does. In summer that happens more quickly, in winter it takes longer.
Why seasoning matters
Seasoning helps reduce the likelihood of movement as the timber acclimatises. It also makes the Yakisugi process more efficient, allowing the heat to work on the timber itself rather than driving unnecessary moisture from the wood.
It’s the small decisions that matter
